President Maia Sandu informed the EU Ambassador in Chisinau Peter Michalko about the country’s interest in buying additional lots of vaccine from the European states that supplemented their supplies with reserves. “I hope we will identify such opportunities and the Government will make the necessary approaches to obtain vaccines for our citizens,” Maia Sandu stated in a meeting with Peter Michalko in the evening of April 2, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, Maia Sandu thanked the ambassador in the name of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for the European solidarity and the huge support offered to the country in this difficult period. She expressed her gratitude for the donations of equipment intended for frontline health workers, the donation of vaccines received through COVAX with European support and the €15 million in grant funding for supporting the sectors of the economy affected by the crisis.

In the meeting, the officials also discussed the latest political developments and agreed that the political agenda should develop depending on citizens’ interests, not only on the calculated steps of parties and interest groups that are behind them. “The European Union is an important partner of the Republic of Moldova, which has offered support to our country for a long period of time. For its part, the Republic of Moldova should obey the commitments and should ensure democratic and economic reforms that would transform the country into a European state,” says the press release.

One evening earlier, the leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon, in a post on Facebook, wrote that during his working visit to Moscow, he had a meeting with Dmitry Kozak, the deputy head of the Kremlin administration, and infomed the Russian side about the Moldova side’s intention to purchase at least 500,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine within the public procurement procedure initiated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
