Suspended Chief Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO), Viorel Morari, claims that the director of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC), Ruslan Flocea, asked him to check the file on the financing of the PSRM and, if possible, to stop the investigation. Flocea is of the opinion that the statement was made to “attract attention”
In an interview for www.timpul.md, Morari said that “the discussion with the NAC chief took place between November 18 and 20, and I was dismissed on December 10”.
Contacted by ZdG, Morari said that Flocea, with whom he worked for a period, seemed to him “a correct and fair person” and “I didn’t think President Dodon could have an influence on him.” Morari added that it was only a request and that
“I couldn’t say that it intimidated me in some way”.
“Following these statements, it is possible that additional measures will be taken in against me. For example, in the cases in which I am investigated, house searches have not been done and I could have such surprises in the coming days, even if the motivation for these house searches should drop, “said Viorel Morari for ZdG.
Ruslan Flocea did not respond to ZdG calls. However, the NAC press service sent us his reaction.
“It is a natural position of a defendant an accused who wants to draw the attention of as many public persons as possible to distract the attention from his own problems,” commented Flocea.
On January 10, on the day the verifications were completed at the two specialized prosecutor’s offices (APO and PCCOCS), the suspended chief prosecutor of APO, Viorel Morari, was detained for 72 hours. Later, he was placed in preventive arrest in the Penitentiary no. 13 and placed under judicial control on February 14, when the first court hearing took place regarding the first file in which Morari, is suspected of abuse of service and false in public documents. At the same time, another cause was started on his behalf, the suspended head of the pa being suspected of illicit enrichment.
Tomorrow, March 3, at the Buiucani headquarters of the Chisinau District Court a new meeting will be held in the file in which Morari is being investigated for “interference in the conduct of justice and criminal prosecution”.
Flocea was appointed as director of the CNA on July 31, 2019. Previously, he was councilor of the President of the Republic of Moldova and the head of the Territorial Directorate “Center” at CNA.
